(2007)  Independent Research Project: “Community-based art practices in rebuilding post-war identity(ies)”, Values and Vocations Grant, Occidental College

Task: Awarded grant to study community-based art in El Salvador.

Goal: Learn how local art organizations, artists and communities are using art to rebuild community identity/ies after the civil war. Select one community with whom I can share the medium of photography to explore personal perceptions of community. Share findings with academic community.

 

  • Investigated community-based art empowerment initiatives in post-civil war El Salvador.

  • Facilitated student photography project.

  • Curated photo exhibition in both El Salvador and Los Angeles.
